Welcome to the WEA -
Photos, Music and Movies
Making a Digital Story using Photos, Garage Band and iMovie

Scope for today

Use the features of Photos for Mac OS, Garage Band and iMovie to make a digital story of between 30 and 60 seconds.

One week residential or six hours?

What matters
  • You become aware of some of the possibilities of the three applications and try them out
  • Know where to find more info
What doesn’t matter
  • That the final product is a polished one. Great audiovisual is very time-consuming!
  • It is enough for today’s exercise that you increase your awareness and start to develop new skills.
Process - Start with the end in mind!
  1. What story do you want to tell?
  2. Select images and enhance them (10?)
  3. Draft your script
  4. Compose/select background music
  5. Record your commentary and edit
  6. Import your soundtrack
  7. Add images and effects if necessary
  8. Share your masterpiece!

Photos for Mac OS

Photos, which has replaced iPhoto, is a program which allows you to store and organise your image library. You also use the Edit function to enhance your pictures.

Garage Band

Garage Band enables you to create original music with, in my case anyway, little or no musical skill! It is also useful to record narration.

iMovie

Se while iMovie is primarily for editing movie footage it can also be used to assemble digital stories by combining your narration with selected images and enhancing with special effects.
